Man, a lot of flame going on here. It just shows that it’s absolutely ARBITRARY and subjective. There will always be those who prefer one over the other AND NOBODY IS WRONG, and are entitled to their OPINIONS. Let’s all show each other some respect, eh?

    @goalieblues good point. +1

i got the little fender champ 600 and find it a bit shrill, iam getting a new speaker for it would a change of valve manufacturer soften th etone? i hear jj nice and mellow

  6. gregsb100 said

    cool

  7. theVolvo1964 said

Most likely not, those amps tend to be shrill most likely due to the speaker. Make sure you get a les bright speaker.

as crazy as this may sound, I like the clean tone of a solid state more than that of a valve amp

what would you have to do to a apm head to be able to switch out tubes and mix and match.. i know the dual and triple rectifier from mesa boogie allow you to do that but im talking about say and amp head from marshall

I love this guy. He’s such a “dude” and all, but stuff he says us really important and helpful to many people. This is a lesson to a lot of you people in comments. You can’t play shit guitar, yet you your EGO is spilling all over the place. Look at this guy in the video. That’s the man.

you forgot the 5881 output tube.

  13. usedtohatecellphones said

:39 Yes, it is important to know the different kipes of tubes available.
Great video though, I really learned a lot… Not I just need money for a decent amp.

    sorry ,youre the man

5881 is a 6L6. 5881 is the manufacturer’s name for the tube. There are many different types of 6L6s.

  17. crguti said

I think you’re wrong. 5881 is not a brand. 6L6WGB is similar to 5881 tube which is different of 6L6GB and 6L6GA.

I have a 71 princeton reverb someone put EL84′s in,, it sounds great and is way loud,, I dont understand the mod ,,but the amp is deep and has great tone

  20. pixelmasseuse said

the tube he holds up at 8:14 is NOT and EL84!

  21. Michaelingolfhansen said

@pixelmasseuse He never claimed it was an EL84!
He stated that EL84′s are smaller than other output tubes (holds a large one up), and has similar thickness than a preamp tube (holds one up) but are higher/longer!

  22. SingleCoilVoodoo said

@pixelmasseuse He didnt say it was. It was a diameter comparison to the preamp tube.
